Monday October 31st!

Standard

Happy Halloween!

Everyone looks so great in their costumes today!

This morning we did a few activities for Halloween.

We went down to the Gym for a High School Assembly. They sang a few Halloween songs and a couple others. The kids loved it!

Next we will read a Halloween book and they will write about their favorite part.

They will go to lunch and then they have Library after lunch.

After Library, we will play Halloween Bingo and do a few other activities.

At 1:45 we will go trick-or-treating for the Halloween Happenings parade.

After the parade, which should take about an hour, we will come back, clean up the room, and get ready for home.

HW: Please write the spelling words 3-5 times each. I would like them to turn this in tomorrow so I know they are practicing. Please write them down and keep them on a sheet for home. Test will be Friday.

Spelling Words for the week:

1. head

2. spread

3. bread

4. fox

5. box

6. trick

7. snack

8. rested

9. ended

Words 1-3 focus on the “ea”

Words 4-5 focus on the “x” which makes a “ks” sound.

Words 6-7 focus on the “ck” ending

Word 8-9 focus on the “ed” ending.

(These are all sounds and spelling we worked on last week.)

Thursday October 27th!

Standard

This morning we worked on verbs.

We then read two books and compared and contrasted them using a Venn Diagram.

They then had 10 minutes to write in their journal.

After lunch they are in Jiji.

We will go back to the class and watch a Brain Pop on the Arctic Region. We will do an activity on the three layers of the ocean.

We will finish the day with centers.

HW: Study for Spelling Test tomorrow and follow directions in Baggy Book Log.

TOMORROW: I will not be here tomorrow so here are a couple reminders…

1. Monday is Halloween so they can wear their costumes to school.

2. Each student is asked to bring in 2 bags of candy or $5 for PTA

3. We would love parent volunteers from 1:30-3:00

Wednesday October 26th!

Standard

This morning we are working on verbs.

We will do a review in phonics and have an assessment tomorrow.

We will read a few decodable books, so make sure to look over them with your son/daughter tonight.

We will be reading an Arctic magazine together and answering questions.

They will have lunch then Music.

We will be working with adding and subtracting in math.

After second recess my family from California is coming in and we will be doing a Halloween activity.

 

HW: Write a story that includes at least 5 verbs and read the decodable books with your son/daughter.

Tuesday October 25th!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

This morning they have Spanish.

When they return we will be working on sentences and underlining the verbs.

We will continue with phonics and working with the short “e” sound and “ea” being pronounced the same way. Look for the decodable book Ted’s List in their homework folder tonight and have them read it to you. We underlined the short “e” sounds together in class.

After lunch we will go to Jiji and then start our new week of centers.

After 2nd recess we will do math and Student of the Week.

HW: Math worksheet and Baggy Book reading. Follow directions in their Baggy Book Log, and please leave any notes for me so I know you worked with them. Thanks.

 

Friday October 21st!

Happy Friday Everyone!

This morning we worked on Possessive Nouns and I introduced verbs, which is what we will be working on in the mornings next week.

We worked on the “ed” ending during blending today and talked about the 3 sounds “ed” can make: “ed”, “d”, and “t”

We read decodable books together as a class and underlined all of the verbs.

They are in Art right now.

When they come back we will be working with pennies and nickels.

After 2nd recess we will learn more about the Arctic Region.

No homework over the weekend :)

*I will not be here Monday,  my family is visiting from California. There will be a great substitute coming in and I have given her all of the plans for Monday.

Thursday October 20th!

Happy Thursday Everyone!

This morning we worked with possessive nouns. Tomorrow will be the last day working with them for morning work but it will be reinforced throughout the year.

We introduced our last vowel during blending today. The letter and sound for the short “e”.

They had PE today.

They then went to lunch.

They had Jiji.

We will be reading a few decodables and if time allows, I will introduce the Arctic Region today.

We will end the day finishing our round 3 centers.

HW: Baggy Books. Study for Spelling Test tomorrow!

Halloween!

We will be having a little Halloween party on Monday, October 31st. We will celebrate at the end of the day from 1-3:15. Please let me know if you would like to come. I am open to ideas of activities and games you would like to play, depending on the amount of parents/volunteers we have at the end of the day.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

This morning we did more work with Possessive Nouns.

We did a review of some of the letters we learned and then we learned the letter and sounds for “X” “ks”

We read a few decodable books which they all brought home tonight. I would like you to let them read the books to you. We underlined specific sounds and letters.

We watched a Brain Pop on the Desert Region..

They are now in Music.

After Music, we are going to be “examining the penny” and playing a few games with 10 pennies.

At the end of the day they will make a book about the desert.

HW: I would like you to play a game called Penny Paper with them. Directions are on the HW sheet. Please elt me know if you have any questions!

This morning they had Spanish.

We then worked on Possessive Nouns.

We took a few assessments before lunch with our phonics book.

After lunch we went to Jiji.

We then started our next round of centers.

After recess, we learned about our next region. “The Desert”
