This morning we worked on retelling the story of Arthur’s Pet Business through pictures.

We then chose five words as a class and everyone wrote a story that included each of the words in it. Plenty of students shared out and they were great!

They had P.E.

We went to Jiji after lunch.

They completed a few pages of their autobiography.

I read a story and they worked on predicting.

We ended the day watching a video on the importance of washing our hands because everyone seems to be getting sick.

Friday is  half day! Please be here at 12 to pick up your son or daughter.

In the Homework side of the binder tonight is a Parent Teacher Conference sheet. Please pick three times that work for you. These conferences will be held on Friday October 7th.

I am going to order Time For Kids for our class. I am asking all parents to send $4.50 with your son or daughter so we can have a class set. It is a great magazine that comes weekly and deals with current events and international news. It will be great to teach lessons around these magazines on a weekly basis!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

This morning we worked on our nouns and wrote stories.

We then worked on phonics and introduced the letter “C” making the “k” sound, contractions and the “all” sound.

I did a read aloud about the different climates and we talked about where a Polar Bear lives. They used picture tiles to retell the story.

They had Music class.

We are then going to do a second read of Arthur’s Pet Business and talk about problem and solution. The first grade team each got a Hermit Crab for their rooms. I am going to introduce our Hermit Crab and we are going to vote on a name. STAY TUNED! :)

We are going to end the day with reading a decodable book working on contractions and the “all” sound.

HW: Arthur’s Pet Business worksheet AND they have the word tiles from the Polar Bear Story. Please have them use the pictures and retell the story to you. You can then keep that worksheet at home. I also have a generous parent who is going to put our class list together so please fill out the form in the Homework side and return it tomorrow if you would like to be part of the list.

Thanks and enjoy the rest of your day!

HAPPY TUESDAY!

This morning the students had Spanish.

We were able to start Jiji today which is an internet math program! The kids love it! We will be going there on a regular basis once NWEA testing is over.

We watched a video on addition facts “ten” and talked about all of the patterns we can make with 10. I introduced number families and will be talking a lot more about this in the upcoming months. We did an activity with drawing bubblegum in a machine to help reinforce 10.

I read a Dr. Seuss book about being a responsible pet owner. We are going to get a class pet (Hermit Crab) in the next few days.

We ended the day with each student writing how they are going to be responsible with our class pet and they presented their picture to the class.

***I SENT HOME DECODABLE BOOKS TO MOST OF THE STUDENTS WHO I WOULD LIKE TO WORK ON THEIR READING SKILLS AND SIGHT WORDS. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SON/DAUGHTER’S BACKPACK AND BEGIN READING BOOK 1. Your student should be able to read each book fluently before moving onto the next book. Please email me with any questions.

If you have any of the unfinished decodable books, please send them with your child tomorrow.

HW: Facts of 10 worksheet.

Have a great Tuesday!

Hello Everyone!

This morning we reviewed nouns, compound words, syllables, and the letters and sounds we have learned so far.

Student of the week this week was Calila!

They went to the library today and checked out new books! Be sure to read with them tonight!

In math we are working on addition to 10. Their homework tonight is math Home Links 2.3. They are supposed to use 15 pennies for addition. Please have your son/daughter bring the pennies to school tomorrow so they can keep them in their math kit. If you would like to send a few extra sets of ten pennies, that would be great!

I am going to introduce autobiographies to the students and over the next few weeks and  they are going to make a book about themselves.

Have a great Monday!

We are finishing the day reading a story about responsibility. It is a called Arthur’s Pet Shop. Ask them about the story tonight.

Friday September 23rd!

Happy Friday Everyone!

This morning we worked a bit more on singular, plural, proper, and possessive nouns.

I introduced the letter and the sounds for ”B”.

For some of the students we read a decodable book called Pat’s Map. If your child read it, it is in their homework folder and I would like you to read it at least 10 times this weekend. I would like them to become fluent with every sentence and word in the story. For the other students, I gave them time to free write and then share their work with the other classmates.

This afternoon they had art and then we are going to work on “ten frames” in math.

We will finish the day with their RESPONSIBILITY BOOK. They will bring it home this weekend and read it to you.

I would like to begin centers and guided reading groups on Friday. IF YOU ARE A PARENT THAT WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER 1 OR 2 DAYS A WEEK DURING CENTERS TIME, PLEASE EMAIL ME. I am hoping to have the parents that want to help here on Friday when I introduce it to the students so they can help everyone with the procedure of how centers will work.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Thursday September 22nd!

Happy Thursday everyone!

In the morning each student wrote a story and drew a picture and then presented it to the class. We talked about where our ideas for writing comes from and everyone shared why they wrote about what they did. I am trying to help them think of new ideas to write about and show them you can write about anything that interests them. It was great to see them read to their class and show their artwork.

We introduced the “O” sound. We worked on long “O” and short “O”.

They had gym and then went to recess and lunch.

We worked on some math with a number grid. We worked on counting up and back. After they played a game with a partner on  individual math grids.

We had a fireman come visit us today for about ten minutes which the kids LOVED! He will be back in a few weeks and stay longer for fire safety talks.

We did a read aloud and then ended the day with a short vowel picture sort.

HW: Noun worksheet.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Have a great rest of your day!

This morning we started our day with phonics and introduced the “L” sound. We reviewed all of our letters and made new words. They did a great job.

We finished our 3rd page of the Responsibility book. We talked about how we can be responsible to our family and friends.

We did a few more math assessments (grades will be posted soon).

They had Music today and after lunch they did the NWEA math.

We also worked on another Problem/Solution with Splat the Cat.

HW: I would like your son/daughter to write for 15-20 minutes tonight. I want them to write a story about any topic they chose. Please help them sound out words if they need but don’t spell any words for them. You should give them a quiet area where they can concentrate. Have them read to you when they are done.

Thanks! Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday September 20th!

Standard

Today we had Spanish in the morning.

We came back and I introduced the letter and the sound for “P”. We worked on dictation with the letters we have introduced this year, and they did really well.

I gave them 20 minutes to write in their Composition books and they loved it. They are starting to write stories and spell new words on their own. It is so nice to see. If they bring home their writing journal, feel free to respond to their story so they can learn from you too.

We are going to do a couple of math assessments this afternoon.

I am going to read the story Corduroy and work on problems and solutions. I am going to talk to then about fiction stories and how there is usually a problem, and then a solution. When you read with them tonight, try to have them point out the problem and/or the solution.

We will finish the day with working on our RESPONSIBILITY books.

HW: Math worksheet “Number Stories 1.13″

Have a great Tuesday!
